Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King released the following statement on the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson
A towering voice and a devoted servant of justice. Reverend Jackson was more than a civil rights advocate —he was a living bridge between generations, carrying forward the unfinished work and sacred promise of the Civil Rights Movement.
He walked with courage when the road was uncertain, spoke with conviction when the truth was inconvenient, and stood with the poor, the marginalized, and the forgotten when it was not popular to do so. His life was a testament to the power of faith in action-faith that justice could be won, that dignity belongs to every person, and that love must always have the final word.
Through decades of tireless organizing, preaching, and prophetic witness, he helped bend the are of the moral universe a little closer toward justice. His voice stirred the conscience of a nation, and his vision inspired generations to believe that change is not only possible, but necessary.
Our hearts are with his family, his friends, and the countless people whose lives were touched by his ministry and movement. We honor his extraordinary legacy and lifelong devotion to civil rights and human dignity. May his memory be a wellspring of strength and courage for all who continue the sacred work to which he gave his life.
As he so often reminded us, “Keep hope alive.”
And now, as his earthly voice grows still, may that hope rise in us-louder, braver, and more faithful than ever-until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.
